Element MDS works by mixing medications (liquid, solid and even controlled substances) with an organic, plant-based powder and simple tap water. Shaking this mixture turns it into an unusable, gel-like substance that is ready for disposal in a common trash receptacle.

Yes. Element MDS can be used for the disposal of controlled substances as well as most other medications.
Element MDS is offered in a convenient 4oz packet (Element MDS Ready-Pack) and 17oz bottle (Element MDS Ready-Kit or Element MDS Value Option). Each packet can dispose of up to 250 tablets/capsules (based on the size of a standard, 200 mg over-the-counter ibuprofen tablet). Each bottle can dispose of up to 750 tablets/capsules.
Element MDS is available in three options. The Element MDS Ready-Pack is perfect for home use. Each order contains three bags each capable of disposing of 250 tablets/capsules. Consider this option when disposing of an expired prescription or pain medications that you no longer need. This is our most popular in-home option.
The Element MDS Ready-Kit is best for health care organizations that dispose of large amounts of medications. This option offers a tamper evident bottle that disposes of up to 750 tablets/capsules. It also offers the convenience of grab-and-go packaging. Each box contains every component needed. This is our most popular when groups make Element MDS available to individuals outside of their organizations (e.g. community coalitions, law enforcement and funeral homes).
The Element MDS Value Option is like the Ready-Kit except the bottles are not individually packaged. This is a cost-effective option for health care organizations that are able to package the components needed. This is our most popular option among hospice and healthcare facilities.
When a patch is mixed with the Element MDS Powder Packet and water, it is bathed in the gel-like substance. This does not make the patch unusable, but it certainly makes it less desirable. What’s more, the tamper-resistant container (Element MDS Ready-Kit or Element MDS Value Option) makes any contents extremely difficult to access.
